What's it going to cost?
The Office of Financial Aid provides an Estimate of Full Time Educational Costs for attending Oregon State University's Corvallis campus. Tuition costs for students vary depending on their residency status, course of study and degree level. Room and Board budgets vary for students that live on campus, off campus, or are considered commuters from home.
Online students can use the Ecampus Program Cost Calculator to get a better idea of the costs that they may face.
You can visit Department of Defense TA DECIDE. It is a dynamic information and comparison tool that is designed specifically to aid participants of DoD's Tuition Assistance (TA) program in making informed choices on schools and education programs.
Using Military Tuition Assistance?
In general, eligible service members can receive TA at a rate of $166.67 per quarter hour cap with an annual ceiling of $4,500.
The benefit payment of $166.67 per credit hour will not cover the total cost of attendance at OSU.
Each military branch has its own TA application form and procedures. Visit your local installation education center, go online to a virtual education center or click on the following links for each service branch:
On active duty and need help covering the remainder of your tuition and fees?
You may consider using the Degree Partnership Program
If you have lower division courses remaining, and you are planning on using Military TA, take a look at the OSU Degree Partnership Program.
OSU has an agreement with the 17 community colleges here in Oregon, and 3 in Hawaii. It allows you to be enrolled in both schools, taking community college courses, at community college rates, that apply to your OSU degree.
There are many advantages to this program. Smaller class sizes, greater access to instructors, but the biggest is cost.
Military TA pays $166/quarter hour credit, many community colleges offer tuition rates below that rate.
That allows you to complete lower division courses at little to no out of pocket expense. Pay for the upper division courses later, when you need them.
Ecampus Students
If you were in the State of Oregon when you joined the service, and now taking Ecampus courses, you may be eligible for the Ecampus Military Grant.
You may consider Top-Up.
If you’re using the Montgomery GI Bill
You’ll get the difference between the DoD payment and the total cost of the course.
This benefit will be reduced, or charged, one month of entitlement for each payment received that is equal to the full-time monthly GI Bill rate.
Note: The combined amount paid by DoD and Tuition Assistance Top-Up can never be more than the total cost of the course.
If you’re using the Post-9/11 GI Bill
We’ll pay back your school the difference between the DoD payment and the authorized (approved) maximum tuition and fees.
This benefit will be charged based on training time no matter how much money you’re paid back. Half-time training rates reduce your GI Bill benefit by a half-month for each month you’re enrolled.
Note: The Post-9/11 GI Bill will often cover the full cost of tuition and fees, with the same amount of entitlement charged no matter how much is covered by TA. Be sure to consider your options before deciding to use both of these programs for the same courses. If you use these benefits separately, you're more likely to maximize your educational benefit funding.
