SSgt. Whitfield was born in Portland Oregon, he signed the draft on 16 Oct 1940 and was called to service into the Army on 30 Dec 1941. He started his college career here at Oregon State College then transferred to Stanford University graduating there in public accounting. He was killed in Alaska while serving with the 340th Engineers, and was survived by his parents.
SSgt. Sutherland enlisted 11 Apr 1942 in Portland, Oregon, and served in the 134th infantry 35th division.

SSgt. Vessey was born in Oregon City, Oregon. He graduated from Oregon State College in 1943, while going to school he was the Sports Editor of the Barometer, and won a campus-wide softball competition in the Spring of 1942. While serving with the 1st Marine Battalion, 28th Marine Infantry, 5th Marine Division, SSgt. Vessey was a correspondent. He was apart of the initial assault on Mount Suribachi and within three hours of landing he had written his eye witness account of the beginning of the invasion.
SSgt. Trew was born in Illinois, and signed the draft on 30 Jun 1942 while attending Oregon State College. He was killed in Italy while serving with the 86th Mountain Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Infantry Division, Company L. He was survived by his parents.

SSgt Steele enlisted on July 3rd, 1943 in Portland Oregon. Steele served in the Army 290th Infantry 75th Division operating in Germany. SSgt Steele was KIA in Germany on March 29th 1945.

While serving with the Army Air Force’s 512 Bombardment Squadron, 376 Bombardment Group,the B-24 he was piloting went missing near the Adriatic Sea. He was survived by his wife, parents and four siblings.
Born in Astoria, Oregon, SSgt Palmberg studied Business Administration during his time at Oregon State College. While serving with the Army’s Company L, 186th Infantry Regiment he was killed in action on Biak Island, Indonesia. He was survived by his mother, and four siblings.

SSgt Mansfeild served with the Army 187th Glider Infantry, 11 Airborne Division in the New Guinea during WWII. During the invasion of Leyte island, Philippines SSgt. Mansfeild was KIA. He was survived by his parents, four brothers, and his sister.

SSgt Mann registered for the draft in McMinnville Oregon on 16 Oct 1940, he was called to service on 15 Dec 1943. He went missing in May of 1945 after his B-24 Liberator “Green Hornet” Buno # 44-40286 of which he was the Tail Gunner failed to return from a mission after being shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire. He was later declared to be killed in action. He was survived by his mother, brother, and wife.
