Voyager Tuition Assistance

What it is:

This program is coordinated by Financial Aid and Scholarships. Voyager is an OSU benefit program that is available to Oregon veterans who served as members of the National Guard or Reserves in an active duty capacity in a combat zone on or after September 11, 2001. Under this program, eligible student veterans will be awarded funding for the difference between campus tuition/mandatory fees and expected military tuition benefits (i.e., federal military tuition assistance [TA] and VA Education Benefits). Voyager funds are not restricted to tuition only. This program is meant to work in conjunction with other educational aid programs; thus, the student is responsible for obtaining TA benefits and VA education benefits. If they are not eligible for these, they must demonstrate proof of ineligibility.

What it covers:

Voyager funding is determined by the amount of TA and VA education benefits for which the student is eligible. While the funds are not designated for tuition only, the amount of Voyager funds awarded to a student is intended to make up the difference between campus tuition/mandatory fees and expected military tuition benefits (i.e., federal military tuition assistance [TA] and VA Education Benefits). Students who qualify for both Voyager and Chapter 33 VA education benefits will have their Voyager payments based on their Chapter 33 benefit level and the Voyager benefit is then deducted from their Chapter 33 benefit payments; students who qualify for 100% Chapter 33 education benefits cannot qualify for Voyager at the same time. Students who qualify for both Voyager and TA benefits will have their Voyager payments based on their TA payment for the term.

Restrictions: The maximum length of the Voyager award is five years (15 quarters) of undergraduate study toward a baccalaureate degree and carries a maximum credit limit of 15 course credits beyond the minimum needed for degree completion. The Voyager Tuition Assistance Program does not cover E-Campus or Distance courses. This benefit is not transferable to a veteran’s spouse or dependents.
