Born in Grants Pass, Oregon 1st Lt Kelly spent only two years here at Oregon Agricultural College in 1908 and 1909 before taking time off from college and then transferring to U of O in 1912, where he graduated in Forestry in 1914 as a member of Sigma Chi. While serving with the Army Engineers Company A, 10th Engineers he was killed in France due to a motorcycle accident. He was survived by his wife, son and daughter, parents and five sisters.
