Born in Oregon, 1st Lt King attended both the University of Oregon and Oregon State College. He studied Forestry when he was at OSC. While serving with the Army Air Forces 12th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron as a Lockheed P-38 Lightning Pilot, 1st Lt King was killed in Italy, he was survived by his wife, parents and two siblings.
