Biography

Died in the sinking of the SS Tuscania by German U-boat UB-77 just of the Islay Island Scotland, in 1918. The community of Islay came together and pulled the close to 200 soldier's bodies out of the water. They spent all night creating an American flag to bury the soldiers with the next morning. By request, many of the men's graves were moved to America. Verner's final resting place is in Arlington National Cemetery Arlington Virginia Section 19 spot 935.
