Born in Myrtle Point, Oregon, Lt (J.G.) Leland Clinton signed the draft on 16 Oct 1940 while attending Oregon State College, earning a Bachelors of Science in Forestry in 1941, and joined the Navy Reserves on 31 Mar 1943. He went missing while serving aboard the USS Indianapolis in the Philippine Sea. He was survived by his wife, parents, and his sister.
