Born in Portland, Oregon, 1st Lt Hoyt Studied Business Association while attending Oregon State College. He enlisted into the Army on 16 Sep 1940 out of Portland Oregon. While serving with the 1st Battalion, 41st Division, 162nd Infantry as a company commander he was killed on Biak Island Papua New Guinea. He was survived by his wife, parents and four brothers.
