Born in Pendleton, Oregon, Flying Officer Olsen studied at Oregon Agricultural College for two years, his major was not published by OAC. He chose to fight the war before the US joined into WWII, as such he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, swearing his willingness to serve but refused the oath of allegiance to Canada. While serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force 405th Squadron, 4th Group, he went missing on 1 Oct 1942. 27 Halifax Bombers of 4th Group attacked the U-Boat Base at Flensburg, Germany, 12 of which were lost amounting to almost half of the force. His aircraft was one of the 12 shot down. Flying Officer Olsen was labeled as KIA six months later as was required by Canada. He was survived by his parents and brother.
