Lt Ashcraft was born in Dufur Oregon, he signed the draft on 16 Oct 1940 and entered the Navy on 3 Jan 1941. Pilot of a PBY Catalina his plane was lost on a routine flight between Baker and Canton Islands in the Pacific. He was the second of three sons his parents lost to the war. The other two were Lt Dean Ashcraft (killed in Jun 1943) and SSgt Leland (killed in Feb 1944) both were students of OSC, all three are on this list. He was survived by his wife, a two year old daughter, a brother and his parents.
