Virctor D. Brown served in the Army K Company 342nd Infantry, 86th “Black Hawk” Division during WWII. He died in action during the last push against Germany in WWII.
From the Oregonian 26 May 1947:
"Sigma Alpha Epsilon, has hit upon an idea for a permanent memorial for him that we feel would please Vic very much. Each year at the end of the baseball season, coach and squad will select the outstanding Orange player and to him the Victor D. Brown, Jr. baseball trophy will be awarded. As it's to be a perpetual trophy, the name of each winner will be inscribed on it and the trophy itself will remain in the fraternity house. The first presentation will be made at a banquet to the baseball team in the near future."
