Biography

Maj. Stevenson was taken hostage during the fall of Bataan and was forced through the death march. He was labeled MIA in May of 1942 and POW that December. He survived the bombing of the POW transport ship Oryoku Maru on 15 Dec 1944, the surviving POWs and Maj Stevenson were then transferred to the Enoura Maru which was also bombed 9 Jan 1945. The survivors of the Enoura Maru were then put onto the Brazil Maru, which wasn’t cleaned from the feces of the livestock it carried prior, nor was it packed with food for the prisoners.  Harold Stevenson didn’t survive the trip on the Brazil. He was listed as KIA on 28 Jan 1945, one day prior to the Brazil reaching Moji Japan.
