Young, Gregory Dean

Maj. Young was born in St. Helen, Oregon. He earned a degree in Civil Engineering and a Minor in Aerospace Studies while attending Oregon State University. While serving with the 142 Fighter Wing, he flew an F-15 Eagle during a dogfight practice with Texas Marine Corps Reserve pilots when he crashed over the Pacific Ocean. The final report stated that he had suffered from spatial distortion, which caused him not to know his altitude, attitude, or airspeed, as a result he flew his aircraft into the ocean. His name can be found on the Remembrance Rug by Symbol #5110.

Stone, Gregory Lewis "Linus"

Major Gregory Stone left the Air Force in 2000 and joined the Air National guard. Maj Stone was killed in Kuwait by Army Sgt Asan Akbar when Akbar threw grenades into his unit’s tents on 22 Mar 2003 on Camp Pennsylvania, Kuwait and started shooting at the soldiers trying to get out of the tents. Maj Stone died three days later from injuries from the grenades on Camp Udairi. Maj Stone was a B-1 pilot.

Pokorney, Frederick Eben Jr.

Born in San Antonio, Texas 1st Lt Pokorney spent most of his childhood in Nevada, and graduated from Oregon State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science through the Liberal Arts College. While serving with the Marine Corps Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade he was killed when his unit was attacked by Iraqi soldiers pretending to surrender in An Nasiriyah, Iraq. He was survived by his wife, daughter, parents, and his four siblings.  

Nakis, Nathan William

Born in Sedro Woolley, Washington, Spec Nakis was studying Civil and Forest Engineering here at Oregon State University. While serving with the Army National Guard Company B, 52nd Engineer Battalion, Spec Nakis was in a convoy returning to Mosul, when he tried to avoid a pothole he thought contained an IED. In doing so he lost control of his vehicle while driving through an oil-soaked area in Mosul, Iraq and died at the age of 19. He was survived by his parents and brother.

Gibson, Brennan Chriss

"Sgt. Gibson of Springfield, Oregon was a 1997 graduate of Thurston High School. After high school, he attended Oregon State University in Corvallis, graduating in 2003 with a bachelor of science in art, with a special focus on graphic design. He was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. He spent much of his free time designing graphics and houses on his computer or sketching in one of a dozen sketch pads. He had a great sense of humor and a strong sense of doing his best in all his commitments. Brennan is the youngest of six children. He left for Iraq shortly after the birth of his son.

Galea'i, Max Allen

Born in Pago Pago, Ma’oputasi American Samoa, Lt Col Galea’i earned a Bachelors of Science through the College of Science in 1988, commissioning to 2nd Lt through the Oregon State University ROTC Program. On 4 Jun 1988 he enlisted into the Marine Corps, serving as the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division based out of Kaneohe, Hawaii. He was killed in Al-Karmah, Al Anbar Province, Iraq  by a suicide bomber dressed as a security guard, 20 people were killed in the attack.

Fennerty, Sean Patrick

Born in San Diego, California, while attending Oregon State University he was a supervisor for the intramural sports program. Sgt Fennerty enlisted into the Army around 2004. While serving with Company A, 3rd Battalion, 509th Airborne Infantry, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division he was killed from wounds received when his humvee was blown up by an improvised explosive device in Karmah, Anbar Province, Iraq. He was survived by his parent, two sisters and a brother.
